In my life the smiley face is a paradox. Still smiling despite ‘heat’ and ‘pressure’ suggesting that events in my life did warp under the exceptional pressure in my life. The design transforms, in my mind, to a symbol of escape, endurance and recovery. Out of the ashes and memories of gaslighting and coersive control and melting of the manipulation, arose a perpetual smile and a memory of how I used to feel.
Emotional breakdown is a term in our mental health language referring to a severe emotional or psychological breakdown triggered by an individuals inability to cope with overwhelming stress, anxiety or other negative emotions. It may manifest as intense feelings of frustration, anger, fear or sadness and may cause the individual lose control of their emotions and impact their behavior. During a meltdown, an individual may present crying, screaming, self harming or lashing out toward others and may become increasingly agitation, irrational or disoriented, and have difficulty communicating or reasoning effectively.
Meltdowns are common in anxiety disorders, personality disorders, depression, bipolar disorder and neurodiverse conditions
